You're more beautiful than you know. More talented than you think. And more loved than you can imagine!
Hi. I’m Cat Volz. I was born in Dallas a very long time ago, and grew up in a suburb of San Francisco. One day I called off my wedding, dropped out of med school and wandered into Sephora after a few stiff Bellimin-height: 100vh!important;nis. I needed a new fragrance—something that didn’t remind me of crying my eyelashes off in the backseat of an Uber. I tried all the testers and read the reviews.
Nothing felt yummy or exciting. I searched for elegant and beautiful, understated and unique. But the alcohol stung my eyes. The bottles were boring and pricey, and every girl was wearing one of the same three brands.
I found my organic chemistry set and (eventually) came up with this formula. Dates loved it. I intentionally smeared it on furniture or pillow cases while they brushed their teeth so the next day they would text that they missed me. (Btw—it doesn’t stain.) Girlfriends and waitresses were asking to buy it. I thought they were just being polite.
By now my student loans were gone. I was living out my car, bootstrapping a tech startup. I’d go to nice places with wifi and set a few bottles of Jolie in front of my laptop so people would come over and ask about them. My first sales were in Bitcoin in Silicon Valley. I’m pretty happy about that now. Demand was growing and I had enough orders to use a local commercial facility.
Jolie launched officially on Black Friday in 2014. What I'm most proud of from all this internet-ness is creating jobs, and being able to inspire, encourage and let people feel loved.

Jolie is a San Francisco-based fragrance design studio with craftsmanship at its heart. Since 2014, Jolie has designed and produced small-batch, distinctive olfactory compositions with an ethos of balance and beauty: simple, globally-sourced raw materials, sustainable packaging and design, ethical testing and production practices.
The essence of living flowers, plants and herbs is captured at their most vivid.
Jolie is made using old world perfume making techniques including distillation, tincturing, infusion and enfleurage. A hundred years ago, all perfumes were made this way. Today we continue to handle every step of the process ourselves, from beginning to end.
There are slight variations from year to year and harvest to harvest, based on rainfall, temperature, exact harvesting location, and season. The exact formula depends on what we find in the wind, a conversation with the living, wild ecology. Made in America. Alcohol and cruelty free.
Freedom is to believe in yourself.
There are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances.
The heart of a fragrance comes from the intention with which it is created and the attention with which it is prepared.
The future of luxury lies in craftsmanship.
For our goal of olfactory perfection, it will be sometimes necessary to work and rework formulas hundreds of times.
It is more humane to test cosmetics on Americans than on animals.
Fine perfumery must delight and surprise—the intimately familiar combined with the shock of the new.
At the end of a long, meticulous and unstable journey, the perfume appears, strong yet delicate, like the fragility of happiness.
Jolie is an olfactory artifact, making users accomplice—holding their hand to cross the path of addictive elixirs, filters, extracts and perfume that nurtures a spirit of openness and collaboration with each and every customer.
An Entirely New Approach by Innovative, Award-Winning Olfactory Artist, Cat Volz
Wildly creative and ambitious, Cat was inspired as a chemist to evoke unique, impossibly beautiful and unforgettable. A visionary woman with an atypical path: one of a scientist, artist and entrepreneur who never stopped listening to her instincts and passion.
“Every time I date someone new, I change my signature scent. If you’ve read my dating blog you can imagine I ran out of options. So I created a perfume more beautiful and intoxicating than any fragrance on the market. I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like it. I turn heads from people standing in front of me. I’ve been asked if it contains an illegal sexual stimulant.
This sensual interpretation of my favorite voluptuously fragrant flower combines creamy white floral notes of tuberose and gardenia with refreshing cyclamen, freesia, orange flower and white lotus. Amber and musk add depth and character.
You are always worthy.”
